What is social entrepreneurship?

Social entrepreneurship means running a business not solely for the purpose of making money, rather creating a social value. This entails tackling social issues through entrepreneurship to add to the social good of the society. Social enterprises operate as a business and generate profit. The models of a social enterprise are for-profit, non-profit and charitable organizations.

How social entrepreneurship represent agency in a highly networked global capitalist economy?

With social entrepreneurship being the solution for social issues, agency plays a significant role in how social entrepreneurship is perceived and understood in the society. Agency is described as the “actions and effects of human actors,” (Pg. 140) This means that a social entrepreneur is an agent or a human actor whose actions serve for oneself and for other people. As an agent or social entrepreneur, you identify the social issues or challenges and find solutions to tackle it and solve the problem. Social entrepreneurs perceive the holes in the economy and break down the imbalance it can cause and the ecological debasement it can cause. The agent in a capitalist economy searches  for ways of making things work in the economy fully intent on creating gain and overcoming any issues between the economy and social disparities. They finish up these holes that the economy has and right the imbalances made in the business.

The Quiet Radicalism of Building a Lifestyle Business

This article covers the reasons why it is important to find work-life balance when building a business and this can be done when running a lifestyle business. For a long time, most people have prioritized their work more than their relationships, family or personal life. They are known as the “workaholics”. The act of working tirelessly with little to no rest is popularly known as a "Hustle Culture". This is usually unhealthy as there is no work-life balance. The focus is in getting the work done and the financial gains. Since this has been viewed as normal, the gradual change to a lifestyle business is not fully accepted as profit is not the sole takeaway from this type of business. This article encourages those who are into lifestyle business to do it proudly as this is healthy for them and others around them.
